Frequently Asked Questions - Challenge Ropes Course (CRC):

1. How do I make a booking?
Telephone any of the numbers below and request a date. If that is available all details and requirements will be recorded including times, numbers, program goals, group issues, past experience on a CRC, and special needs. A booking will then be pencilled into the diary.

2. How much does it cost? The cost varies according to group size, number of Supervisor/Conductors needed to run the program etc. and the time on the course. It is possible to hire the course for half a day. Your booking agent will work out a quote for you over the phone. A day program where you hire the course and necessary staff will cost from $45 per head. If you have qualified staff and insurance of your own it will cost considerably less.

3. What happens next?
A set of information documents will be sent to your address of choice including medical and consent forms. All these need to be carefully read and followed prior to the date booked.

4. What happens if we need to cancel? Ropes Course
Telephone as soon as possible. We require at least ten working days notice to cancel or the full quoted price may be charged. We reserve the right to exercise our own judgement in these matters.

5. What happens if it rains?
If there is a heavy storm or persistent heavy rain we may cancel at short notice. We have to stop all activities if there is an electrical storm. In light rain or squalls we will continue the activity.
We recommend all participants bring rain jackets.

6. What about food?
Participants and/or groups need to bring their own food. We have a fridge and a small kitchen with crockery and cutlery. There are 26 stackable chairs and two fold down tables and a microwave oven. Food can be ordered and delivered. We recommend light and quick meals with no more than a half hour lunch break. A BBQ is available on request.

7. How safe is it?
The CRC industry is very safe and our course is no exception. There have been a few grazes and sprains but since the course was opened in 1999, no injuries worse than that.

8. Can staff join in?
If staff fill out medical and consent forms they may have the opportunity to join in. We expect staff to remain with their groups at all times and to encourage and supervise. Staff may be asked to spot, belay and manage ropes but it is even better if they also have a turn at both low and high ropes.

9. What are the facilities like?
All ropes, harnesses, helmets and related hardware are kept in peak condition and are inspected regularly. This is an outside activity and there is very little covered space. Groups of more than 15 will find the Ropes House a bit of a squeeze. There is one toilet and some kitchen facilities. A large indoor area 12m by 7m is being added in 2008.

10. How many people can we bring?
The ratio of participants to Facilitator/Supervisor is 1:12. If you exceed 12 participants then a second Facilitator/Supervisor is required. The maximum group size is 24 participants but staff and observers are not counted in the 12 or 24 unless they are actually participating.
